The composition of SIEVE surf fins
For the surf fin to achieve the right strength, it is made of a mixture of rcarbon, plastic and fiberglass.
- 70% of the material is rcarbon and plastic.
- 30% of the material of the surf fin is fiberglass. The fiberglass part gives the fin the necessary stability.
Compound materials
All SIEVE fins are made of compound materials, which consist of plastic and a fiber material. The fiber material is added to achieve a higher level of stiffness and less flex.
Carbon materials
The carbon fins are made from plastic and recycled carbon fibers. The fibers mostly stem from the automotive industry and make the material very strong, yet keeping it light.
Glassfiber materials
The second fiber material that SIEVE works with is glass fiber. Fins from this material are made with 70% recycled plastic and 30% fiber.
Unique surface design
SIEVE fins come with a unique surface texture upgrading the recycled plastic. With the help of state-of-the-art laser texturing in 5-axis laser systems, the structure was introduced into our tools and the unique appearance of SIEVE fins was created. Due to the unlimited design freedom of the laser technology, the Sieve Surf fins are characterized by a very flat and detailed surface, which smoothly transitions from an organic textile structure to a geometric polygon structure.

Customer questions
Similar to the aerodynamic shape of airplane wings, surfboard fins have a foil – a tapered design that varies from thick at the center to flatter at the edges. This 'bulbous' shape provides lift and influences the board's performance. The fin foil differs based on the type of fin (single, twin, thruster), with side fins often having a flat or slightly inward-curved profile. Center fins typically feature a symmetrical or 50/50 foil on both sides. The diverse foil designs cater to different surfing styles and board configurations.
Rake and Sweep play a crucial role in surfboard fin design. Rake refers to the length of the leading edge, while Sweep is the angle from the base center to the highest point. A smaller rake, with a shorter leading edge, offers stability and a straight appearance, limiting pivot for a controlled feel. In contrast, a longer rake allows for more turns, providing a looser feel. These factors influence how well the board turns on a point. For a comprehensive guide on Rake and Sweep, check reputable online sources for detailed insights into optimizing your surfboard's performance.
