About the product

AEROSIL 200 is a hydrophilic fumed silica with a specific surface area of 200 m²/g.

Composite materials:
Silica can be used as a filler or reinforcing material in composites for the manufacture of surfboards. In combination with resins such as epoxy or polyester resins, silica can help to improve the strength and durability of the surfboard by adding stiffness to the material. Surfboard applications: fin plugs, sealing and repairs.

Sealing:
The concept resin with silica is a universally applicable material mix that is used for EPS blanks and also for our Agave blanks to seal air chambers or grains. Further information on the process can be found in the video.

Lightweight construction:
Silica can also help reduce the weight of surfboards, especially when used as a filler in lighter foam cores or agave blanks. Lighter surfboards have better flex characteristics and offer better maneuverability. Therefore, it is an important part of the sealing process.

Repairs:
Silica-based materials such as epoxy resin are often used for surfboard repairs. These materials can be mixed with silica powder to form a viscous paste that can effectively repair cracks and damage to the surfboard. Silica, also known as thixotropic powder, acts as a thickening agent due to its angular structure, which in high consistens turns resins into a kind of filler and thus prevents the compound from running away.

Optics:
Silica (quartz sand) is transulent in itself and can add turbidity in large quantities.

Sei Whale Biobased Epoxy

All-purpose Biobased Epoxy System. Sei Whale is a clear, all-purpose epoxy system with high UV resistance and a choice of hardener speeds to suit your working time. It is good for hand lay-up, coating and filling, among other applications. This is a bio-based epoxy system that helps to reduce the environmental impact of our customers' end products, while maintaining or improving product performance. The R*Concept range of epoxy systems have been developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing some of the petroleum-based components with bio-based renewable materials. As a concept dedicated to respect for the environment, each epoxy system in the range is named after a species threatened with extinction. Sei Whale epoxy has a low viscosity which makes for easy saturation of fibreglass reinforcements. It also has a wide working temperature range that makes it convenient for many end users. Its high UV stability makes it ideal for applications that require clear, low yellowing finishes. Like most epoxies, this resin has a slight tint, so is not suitable for clear casting. The Sei Whale epoxy system includes the Sei Whale epoxy resin and can be purchased in two different hardener options: slow & fast. Mix Ratio: 2:1 by Volume Fast hardener 100:50 by weight Slow Hardener 100:46 by weight Working temperature range: 10-35°C Slow Cure: 45-55 minute pot life at 25°C. Fast Cure: 12-17 minute pot life at 25°C.

SR 100 - Half mask

The SR 100 half mask is a silicone air-purifying respirator (APR) available in three sizes: S/M, M/L and L/XL. The mask is equipped with two exhalation valves, which ensure a very low exhalation resistance, and one inhalation valve. Personally, we like the fact that moisture is well filtered out and does not build up so much inside the mask. The valve covers with partitions effectively protect the exhalation membrane from dust and paint mist. The material and pigments of the mask body are FDA and BGA food approved, minimising the risk of contact allergies. The mask's easily adjustable elasticated headgear has a V-shaped loop and a large, curved headband for a comfortable and secure fit. The mask is used either as an APR in combination with filters and/or cartridges from the Sundström range, or in combination with the SR 307 compressed air attachment; this combination is referred to as a type C continuous airflow respirator (SAR). A pre-filter holder is supplied to check the fit. It is best stored in the SR 230 box or the SR 339 storage case. As Sündström manufactures its products in Europe, the affordable paper filters are always quickly available.
