The problem with the surf industry:
The industry of our sport unfortunately goes against all the values that unite us as surfers. The connection with nature, the simple lifestyle and the great love for our oceans. The love of surfing has grown worldwide in recent years and so has the industry and its impact. It's the same everywhere - when it becomes a mass, Mother Earth can't take it anymore. Almost all surfing materials require highly toxic, non-recyclable substances in their production. It is therefore high time to rethink the products we consume for our sport, to look for new approaches together and to support existing solutions.
First solutions, first business:
For the past seven years, Adrian and his first brand, Koabär, have been looking for ways to make surfboard production more ecological. The team researched both existing and new construction methods using different materials to make surfboards more sustainable. Everyone on the team focused on both the longevity of the boards and sustainability in the form of more environmentally friendly materials that produce less plastic waste during production. Works of art were created. But for a long time there was no competitive solution, in the sense of being profitable and adaptable to the masses, due to the time and materials required, which were too different from conventional surfboard shaping methods.
Ray of hope - the Agave Blank
With the Agave Blanks from our partners Grow Blanks, we then found the most sustainable and, at the same time, most profitable solution to have the biggest impact on the surf industry and allow both surfers and shapers to easily switch to the more ecological alternative.
The Eco Surf Supply - creating a change!
The eco surf supply was born from the drive to create a bigger and faster change in the industry. Sharing solution approaches rather than claiming them for ourselves. The more experience we gained and the deeper our research went, the more it became clear that there are already many innovative alternative products that could easily replace conventional toxic methods. By raising awareness and visibility of eco-friendly options, we are willing to create change. We are getting closer to our goal because we are in the process of finding solutions. Join us, rethink!
