About the brand

The SIEVE story started a few years ago on a beach in Denmark. Sebastian was inspired by a desire to combat ocean plastic and began collecting washed-up plastic. He envisioned crafting his own surfing equipment, specifically surf fins, from recycled plastic to prevent plastic from reaching the oceans. This idea aimed to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional surf fins and promote responsible plastic use.

SIEVE is a collaborative effort of a diverse team with a passion for the ocean and surfing. Their mission is to create sustainable surf fins made from recycled materials, while adhering to key principles such as recycling, local production, and circular products. SIEVE firmly believes that sustainability should never compromise quality. SIEVE Fins is committed to both environmental responsibility and top-notch product standards.

Customer questions

The Fin cant refers to the angle at which the fin is positioned on the board. A straight-on position (0 degrees cant) optimizes fast straight-line driving but compromises responsiveness in turns. A larger angle (cant) enhances drive in turns, providing a balance between speed and maneuverabilit

Similar to the aerodynamic shape of airplane wings, surfboard fins have a foil – a tapered design that varies from thick at the center to flatter at the edges. This 'bulbous' shape provides lift and influences the board's performance. The fin foil differs based on the type of fin (single, twin, thruster), with side fins often having a flat or slightly inward-curved profile. Center fins typically feature a symmetrical or 50/50 foil on both sides. The diverse foil designs cater to different surfing styles and board configurations.

Rake and Sweep play a crucial role in surfboard fin design. Rake refers to the length of the leading edge, while Sweep is the angle from the base center to the highest point. A smaller rake, with a shorter leading edge, offers stability and a straight appearance, limiting pivot for a controlled feel. In contrast, a longer rake allows for more turns, providing a looser feel. These factors influence how well the board turns on a point. For a comprehensive guide on Rake and Sweep, check reputable online sources for detailed insights into optimizing your surfboard's performance.
