First & Only Agave Blank Manufaction

The source of our agave blanks comes from a company based in Kenya called Grow Blanks. They are the first & only agave surfboard blank producing company in the world. Grow Blanks is based on one of the world’s largest agave sisal fibre producing farms with exclusive access to a vast amount of raw material. This allows Grow Blanks to produce blanks in quantities that can make a meaningful impact in the surf industry.

Mass Sustainability

Sourcing blanks from one of the world's largest sisal agave farms in Kenya ensures a constant supply of agave blanks for the European market. The quantity and variety growing in Europe cannot produce the same numbers and quality Grow Blanks can supply, making the impact of only using blanks made in Europe miniscule in comparison.

Affordability & Community Impact

By buying blanks from Grow Blanks in Kenya, we are supporting an innovative company that brings employment and skills to a remote part of Africa. Grow Blanks uses the flowering stem of the agave plant, which is a by-product of fiber production. SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainable Agriculture

Growblanks ensures a sustainable cycle on their agave farm by replanting the number of plants they harvest. The agave stem blooms at the end of the plant's life. The flowerstems are harvested when the plant has reached the end of its life cycle.

Zero Waste Shaping

All Agave Blank offcuts and shaping waste are 100% biodegradable and made entirely of plant fibers. About 50% of a surfboard blank is shaped down during production. Conventional surfboards are made from toxic, non-recyclable materials that produce a significant amount of unnecessary plastic waste. With Agave Surfboards, production leftovers can be burned in the fireplace, given to local farmers, or thrown into your own garden.

More Durable Surfboard

The surfboard itself is much more durable than a traditional foam surfboard. Because of its fiber structure, agave is much stronger than foam. The agave structure consists of many intergrown, air-filled stalks, while foam consists of small beads that can be crumbled by hand. Since the core is 95% of the board, an agave surfboard is 95% biodegradable when snaped.

CONSTRUCTION

Shaping

Agave blanks are the most foam-like plant alternative in the world and can also be processed like conventional foam. The solid wood blank can be CNC-milled or hand planed. Use hard pads when sanding, as the natural fibers vary in density.

Sealing & Lamination

Seal the blank before laminating, as with EPS, to prevent resin absorption. The fiber structure of agave provides more stability than PU bladders, so lamination is primarily required for water resistance. The perfect lamination depends on the density of the blank. PERFORMANCE

Weight & Flex

In terms of flex and weight, agave has similar properties to foam. The famous flex of traditional foam surfboards, is achieved with the addition of carbon, wood stringers and fiberglass. Agave offers a natural flex over the entire board due to its stable fiber structure. This results in a stronger rebound compared to foam, which can be an advantage depending on your surfing style. To achieve even more similar flex properties to foam, the agave could be hollowed out, breaking up the natural fiber structure and making the board lighter but less stable. The agave blank offers the perfect natural alternative to conventional foam boards made from petrol.

5 liter Eco Clean - industry solvent

Our own brand cleaner is the result of extensive testing of various environmentally friendly cleaners and we are convinced that this is the best choice for you. This cleaner serves as a more environmentally friendly, skin-friendly and material-friendly alternative to acetone and is perfect for removing epoxy resin or PU glue. Our experience shows that it is even stronger than conventional acetone, but free of hazard symbols and significantly less harmful to the skin and lungs. With only 60% VOC content, it evaporates much more slowly compared to acetone, which extends its lifetime 3-4 times longer. A key aspect is its environmentally friendly chemical process, which takes between 1 and 15 minutes to build up, making it gentler on skin and materials. It is even more effective than conventional acetone over the entire reaction time. Another big advantage is that this cleaner is not flammable and can therefore be left open with a clear conscience. Our practical 750 ml spray bottles are ideal for cleaning laminating cards ,for example, and are incredibly economical to use. Larger containers are also available for commercial purposes. Sei Whale Biobased Epoxy

All-purpose Biobased Epoxy System. Sei Whale is a clear, all-purpose epoxy system with high UV resistance and a choice of hardener speeds to suit your working time. It is good for hand lay-up, coating and filling, among other applications. This is a bio-based epoxy system that helps to reduce the environmental impact of our customers' end products, while maintaining or improving product performance. The R*Concept range of epoxy systems have been developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing some of the petroleum-based components with bio-based renewable materials. As a concept dedicated to respect for the environment, each epoxy system in the range is named after a species threatened with extinction. Sei Whale epoxy has a low viscosity which makes for easy saturation of fibreglass reinforcements. It also has a wide working temperature range that makes it convenient for many end users. SR 100 - Half mask

The SR 100 half mask is a silicone air-purifying respirator (APR) available in three sizes: S/M, M/L and L/XL. The mask is equipped with two exhalation valves, which ensure a very low exhalation resistance, and one inhalation valve. Personally, we like the fact that moisture is well filtered out and does not build up so much inside the mask. The valve covers with partitions effectively protect the exhalation membrane from dust and paint mist. The material and pigments of the mask body are FDA and BGA food approved, minimising the risk of contact allergies. The mask's easily adjustable elasticated headgear has a V-shaped loop and a large, curved headband for a comfortable and secure fit.The mask is used either as an APR in combination with filters and/or cartridges from the Sundström range, or in combination with the SR 307 compressed air attachment; this combination is referred to as a type C continuous airflow respirator (SAR).
